OPUSLISTAN 2018
#20
Katarina Andreasson
dirigent & violinist
Concertmaster of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, professor at Örebro University, artistic director of the chamber music festival in Nora, appreciated conductor around the Orchestra Sweden. Katarina Andreasson admittedly has only four strings on her violin, but they become considerably more if you count on all the other contexts that she also continuously works in. Not least, the commitment to young people’s music practice deserves a great praise. An excellent model that deserves a place on the Opus list any year!

FAMILY CONCERT: ON FOOT
A musical story with the Gothenburg Symphony and a big children´s choir about walking and leaving what was once “home”. Walking towards something unknown to escape something indescribable. And don’t be surprised if some of the music we’ll hear has also come from far away…
About sores, homesickness and new discoveries. On Foot has been created with people who have that experience – people who have just arrived to our country or who arrived several years ago. The story of moving exists within our country as well, and all people can recognise what it feels like to arrive in a new place. These stories hold melancholy, the hope of a better future, and the memory of grandma’s best trick.

“Enastående! Tala om integration, kulturmöten, generationsmöten!
Människomöten och människoöden!”
Inspired by Orpheus
Acclaimed Swedish violinist and conductor Katarina Andreasson attended a week of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra rehearsals in November 2017. Jim Wilson got an interview.
Jim Wilson – Katarina, please tell us a little about your career and how you ended up as concertmaster of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.
Katarina Andreasson – I started my violin studies quite early, graduating with a Diploma from The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen by Prof. Milan Vitek. At the age of 22 I got my first position as 1st Concertmaster of the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra. After 10 years in Denmark I was longing back to Sweden, to our wonderful nature. I got the position as 1st Concertmaster of the Gothenburg Opera orchestra in 1995. In 1997 I had my international debut as a soloist, when I played Howard Blake violin concerto “The Leeds” in Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia orchestra. The same year I was offered the position as 1st Concertmaster of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra (SCO). With the SCO it has really been a journey!
